So these cupcakes!

They are tricky little fellas. Because although they are dressed and disguised in cute little cupcake packages, they are indeed ooey, gooey, chocolatey brownies. The edges form that perfect brownie crust and the center bakes into molten fudge, just as any great brownie should.


I happen to be on the brownie train for life. So this makes me extremely happy!

And not only are these cupcakes like brownies with frosting on top, which are arguably better than cake with frosting…they are slathered in COOKIE DOUGH frosting.

Its almost indescribable. This frosting is the frosting of all frostings.

It has the mouthwatering flavor of cookie dough combined with the fluffy texture of buttercream.

Need I say more? Didn’t think so ;)

makes 12 cupcakes

brownie cupcakes:

1 1/4 cups flour

1/4 tsp baking powder

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup light brown sugar

heaping 1/2 cup cocoa powder

3/4 cup salted butter, melted

2 eggs

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

2 tablespoons half and half

cookie dough frosting:

10 tablespoons salted butter, room temperature

1/2 cup light brown sugar

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon molasses

2 tablespoons half and half

1/2 cup flour

3/4 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the brownie cupcakes: Preheat the oven to 350. Line a standard 12 cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder. Set aside.

In another large bowl, stir together sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Pour in melted butter and mix thoroughly. Beat in eggs, vanilla, and half and half.

Then, slowly stir in the flour mixture until just combined.

Scoop batter evenly into lined muffin tins, filling each cup 2/3 full. Bake for 15-18 minutes. (I usually bake them for 15-16 minutes because I like the center perfectly fudgy and a little gooey!) Cool completely before frosting.

For the cookie dough frosting: Beat the butter for 1-2 minutes on high, until smooth. Beat in the brown sugar and powdered sugar until combined. Add in vanilla, molasses, and half and half. Mix for another minute, then add flour and beat until fluffy. Fold in chocolate chips.

Scoop or spread frosting onto cooled cupcakes. I like to use an ice cream scooper for this frosting!
